Investor's Journal is a diary focused strictly on investments and personal finance issues, primarily from a contrarian and retiree point of view. Follow along with an average guy's failures and successes as he learns, by trial and error, the fine art of value investing.

5/3/14-No assets among monitored portfolios have been sold since the last entry.

Alphabetically, my current top-five Dividend Value equities are: BP; CATO; FIG; RGR; and TEO.

My new featured Dividend Value security is Fortress Investment Group, LLC (FIG) (recent price $7.37). FIG meets Benjamin Graham's bargain stock value and safety criteria.

Fortress Investment Group, LLC will be added to our nest egg at its market price in early morning trading on Monday, 5/5/14.

5/4/14-No assets among monitored portfolios have been sold since the last entry.

Alphabetically, my current top-five Low Price to Book Value equities are: AEG; AIG; HIG; PBR; and SGMA.

My new featured Low Price to Book Value security is American International Group, Inc. (AIG) (recent price $52.35). AIG meets Benjamin Graham's bargain stock value and safety criteria.

American International Group, Inc. will be added to our nest egg at its market price in early morning trading on Monday, 5/5/14.

5/24/14-On 5/12/14, I purchased SNE at $17.26 a share for the Low Price to Book Value portfolio (based on the Low Book Dividend Plus short-term trading criteria).

Since the prior entry as well, our Dividend Value portfolio stock, ELP, bought on 2/24/14, was sold on 5/19/14 for a net gain (after commissions but not counting any dividends) of 50.36%. ELP has been deleted from our open positions record for Dividend Value assets, and its closed position info for 2/24/14 through 5/19/14 has been added to our portfolio spreadsheet for Dividend Value portfolio redemptions and mergers. The stock met sell criteria in that it was up at least 50% since purchase and its dividend had fallen below 3.0%.

Alphabetically, my current top-five Low Price to Book Value equities are: AIG; HIG; PBR; REGI; and SGMA.

My new featured Low Price to Book Value security is The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (HIG) (recent price $34.74). HIG meets Benjamin Graham's bargain stock value and safety criteria.

The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. will be added to our nest egg at its market price in early morning trading on Tuesday, 5/27/14.

5/25/14-Alphabetically, my current top-five Dividend Value equities are: BP; CATO; SIMO; TOT; and USMO.

My new featured Dividend Value security is USA Mobility, Inc. (USMO) (recent price $14.29). USMO meets Benjamin Graham's bargain stock value and safety criteria.

USA Mobility, Inc. will be added to our nest egg at its market price in early morning trading on Tuesday, 5/27/14.

Disclaimer and Disclosure Statement
Much as I'd love it to be otherwise, I receive no payment of any kind for disseminating investment information unless, by some fluke, millions of folks, on the strength of these entries, start buying shares of stock I own, a possibility only slightly less likely than our being destroyed by a large meteorite. Do not follow any suggestions made in Investor's Journal as if I were a professional.

Neither I nor Investor's Journal will be responsible for losses by anyone who obtained ideas from this site.

This diary is intended for personal interest and general information only. You are advised to do your own research (as well as to consult highly compensated professionals) before spending money on anything.

I know of no reason anyone should take my financial musings seriously. At best I am a dedicated amateur providing a bit of investment-related insight and entertainment, at worst an amusing diversion.

My wife, Fran, and I may at times own shares of some of the assets mentioned here. But neither of us receive any benefit from reference to them, unless you count the mutual misery when we get it wrong, or the opportunity to gloat when we get it right.
