June, 2019: 10

6/10/19-Mon.-Valentine's Day-Have begun a mini-vacation, 4-5 days in Fredericksburg, TX, or nearby attractions.

Stopped briefly at a community library in Dripping Springs, since had plenty of opportunity before check-in at my motel. Also practiced mindfulness meditation.

A recent observation is that we live in a fairly unique period. While it has likely been true before for certain regions and cultures, this may be the first time the global human civilization is so at risk from multiple threats that the odds of its surviving more than another generation or two seem are remote.

This interesting, appalling reality coincides with each of our own likely maximum personal life expectancies. Both as individuals and advanced populous societies, these are end-times. There seems no way to alter this. Perhaps little of significance from either our particular or community lives will survive us. These may be our last and best of times, to be replaced all too soon by a collective worst of times. How then shall our existences remain meaningful?
