7/13/03-Said hello to barbara at the supermarket coffee bar my tongue pinched where the dentist messed up my natural bite the front driver's side tire has a nail in it picking up milk ripe pears eggs plus pastries for fran the sun high and desert summer hot urges disrobing this american life on the radio driving over crawdad hole next to our little pond considering a stocks advisory service I think I love you believed I had new friends but they were only humoring me checking out the termite inspection wells the moon full venus' mystique and mars nearly at its closest my nose healing with soft new skin spreading on the pungent anti-scar cream adventures in prospect tea time and the complex roles of sugar and sex in economic history get a job there are so many ways to acquire an extra thousand dollars in a couple days she said then realized how it sounded and laughed lies about iraq and government spins on the truth again facts change the secretary of defense asserted testily harried people going about their frenetic routines so many lusts worries hopes joys and tears what will it all matter in a million years or ten...




7/3/03-Itching beneath the nose bandages country playing on the radio dirty glasses muggy texas weather picky details fixed in place like deer caught in the headlights or moths pinned to a mounting board in the next booth an old man orders shiner bock uncle bill's favorite long-neck bottled beer our limit orders are not going through too little volume or volatility thirty-two years ago today roommate brother ralph and I said our farewells on the eve of his adventure- and irony-filled independence odyssey at nineteen that summer his life half over we had so many awful times and such a lot of great ones together now in the stretched out hours before dawn I sometimes ache to give him another hug say hello and see his smile again...
