Investor's Journal is a diary focused strictly on investments and personal finance issues, primarily from a contrarian and retiree point of view. Follow along with an average guy's failures and successes as he learns, by trial and error, the fine art of value investing.

10/31/21-The following assets were sold since the prior entry (9/30/21): BGFV; CIO; NAVI; ODC; STX; VOO; and XLE. They were replaced by these: EDV; GTN; IMKTA; MKTY; RIO; ZI; and ZS.

Our complete list of basic 25 holdings is thus: AWF; BHK; CRWD; DDOG; DX; EDV; EQTIX; GTN; IMKTA; LSPD; MKTY; MNDY; NET; NLY; QQQE; RIO; SCU; UPST; VB; VBR; VIOO; VTV; WU; ZI; and ZS.

Total portfolio dividends are on track to exceed their 2021 target of $54,000. One goal for our liquid assets is to assure at least an 8% increase in total dividends annually, from their latest base of $50,000 in 2020.

Liquid assets are up in market value $134,845 or 5.99% since 9/30 and currently stand at $2,384,569.

Assets of all kinds (real estate, equities, collectibles, etc.) are up 27.71% since 12/31/20. Our nest egg total is now $2,778,279. This is a $602,854 increase over its level at the end of 2020.

Three approaches are combined in our portfolio. First, certain stocks, exchange traded funds, or mutual funds fall, broadly speaking, into the value investing category and historically have tended over time to do better than the major market averages. This especially the case when they can be bought after market declines of 7% or more. A certain level of money market reserves is maintained as well so additional shares in these kinds of assets may be purchased when we are in a correction or bear market. The following in my view represent this type holding: EDV; GTN; IMKTA; VB; VBR; VIOO; and VTV.

In addition, there are a number of assets that possess above average yields and help our portfolio as a whole attain the yearly total dividend targets. At times they may also benefit from market price increases. These eight boost portfolio income: AWF; BHK; DX; EQTIX; NLY; RIO; SCU; and WU. Their average yield is 8.45%.

Finally, there are here several growth assets or assets which combine characteristics of both value and growth holdings: CRWD; DDOG; LSPD; MKTY; MNDY; NET; QQQE; UPST; ZI; and ZS. For more info and excellent guidance on assets like these I commend the reader to Motley Fool's Saul Investing Discussions and/or to gurufocus.

Hope everyone enjoys a fun Halloween tonight and, in the days ahead, many more treats than tricks through our investing results.

Disclaimer and Disclosure Statement
Much as I'd love it to be otherwise, I receive no payment of any kind for disseminating investment information unless, by some fluke, millions of folks, on the strength of these entries, start buying shares of stock I own, a possibility only slightly less likely than our being destroyed by a large meteorite. Do not follow any suggestions made in Investor's Journal as if I were a professional.

Neither I nor Investor's Journal will be responsible for losses by anyone who obtained ideas from this site.

This diary is intended for personal interest and general information only. You are advised to do your own research (as well as to consult highly compensated professionals) before spending money on anything.

I know of no reason anyone should take my financial musings seriously. At best I am a dedicated amateur providing a bit of investment-related insight and entertainment, at worst an amusing diversion.

My wife, Fran, and I may at times own shares of some of the assets mentioned here. But neither of us receive any benefit from reference to them, unless you count the mutual misery when we get it wrong, or the opportunity to gloat when we get it right.
